Karen is a Clinical Mental Health Counseling practicum student at Liberty University, currently
providing counseling services under the supervision of Dr. Pamela Cassellius. Drawing from
over 21 years of service in the United States Air Force and her experience as a military spouse,
Karen brings a compassionate, grounded, and holistic perspective to the counseling relationship.
Karen’s professional background includes mentoring at-risk youth as well as work in wellness,
yoga instruction, health coaching, personal training, and nutrition. Her approach is client centered, collaborative, and integrative, with a growing focus on Acceptance and Commitment
Therapy (ACT), mindfulness-based approaches, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). She
incorporates nervous system regulation, mindfulness, yoga-based practices, coping skills, and
holistic wellness strategies to support healing, self-awareness, emotional regulation, personal
growth, and meaningful change.
Karen is passionate about working with children, teens, veterans, military families, and
individuals navigating trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, self-esteem concerns, mood disorders,
relationship challenges, and life transitions. She believes healing involves restoring balance
within the mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual aspects of life, allowing individuals and
families to reconnect with themselves and move toward greater wholeness and well-being.
Karen believes meaningful growth involves both acceptance and change—learning to
acknowledge and make space for difficult thoughts, emotions, and experiences while also taking
steps toward a life that reflects what matters most. Mindfulness is an important part of her
approach, informed by her background in yoga and wellness, and may be incorporated to help
clients develop greater present-moment awareness and connection between the mind and body.
She welcomes conversations surrounding faith, spirituality, and personal values as part of the
healing process when meaningful to the client. Karen respects each individual's beliefs and
worldview and is open to thoughtfully incorporating spirituality into counseling when desired by
the client.
Karen desires to provide a supportive and encouraging environment where clients feel seen,
heard, and empowered as they navigate life’s challenges and pursue lasting healing and growth.
